This course emphasizes the fundamental language skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, thinking, viewing and presenting. An emphasis on vocabulary and composition skills will be an on-going part of the program.

This course emphasizes the fundamental language skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, thinking, viewing and presenting. An emphasis on vocabulary and composition skills will be an on-going part of the program. The course includes studies of literary genres: short story, novel, and non-fiction. The development of critical reading and writing skills is a major emphasis of the course.

Students will broaden their composition skills through in-depth planning, organizing, drafting, revising, proofreading, and feedback. Students build on their grammar, usage, and mechanics skills with in-depth study of sentence analysis and structure, agreement, and punctuation.

Course length: Two semesters
